John Leech Campaigning at Lib Dem Conference

September 21, 2005 12:00 AM

Manchester Withington Liberal Democrat MP John Leech has been campaigning hard at his party's annual Conference this week in Blackpool. John and Lib Dem Culture and Tourism supremo Don Foster rode the "Big One" attraction at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, to highlight the importance of Tourism to both Blackpool and the whole of the North West of England.

Earlier, John Leech MP met representatives of the Telecommunications Industry. Whilst accepting that mobile phones are a part of modern life, he raised the recent campaign by residents to stop a mast being erected at the junction of Nell Lane and Burton Road, West Didsbury, as an example of the need for Councils to be given more powers to control the problem, and the industry to share masts.

Later, John spoke at a fringe meeting about Housing. John reaffirmed his view that the government should change its rules to give Councils the power to borrow money to invest in Council Housing rather than forcing stock transfers or setting up Housing Companies. John believes that Tenants in Manchester should be offered real choice in the debate about how best to fund much-needed improvements to their homes, instead of the very limited choices on offer from the current Government.

If you are a resident of the Manchester, Withington constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
