John Leech MP
This Friday Manchester Withington Liberal Democrat MP John Leech will be voting in the House of Commons in support of moves to allow the House of Commons to decide when the country goes to war in advance of the deployment of troops (Or, in emergencies, retrospectively.)
Currently, this decision is taken by ministers via the Royal Prerogative. At the moment, Parliament doesn't even have the right to be consulted. John is one of 181 MP's to have signed Early Day Motion 85 (EDM) wanting to change the rules.
John Leech MP said today, "Never again do I want to see a situation when Britain goes to war on a false prospectus. Whether to go to war is the most important decision anyone could ever make. I think those decisions should be made publically and democratically by parliament, and not in secret to do George Bush a favour."
