John Leech MP launches quest to find local young business talent

January 7, 2007 12:00 AM

John Leech is on the look-out for local talented business people of the future as he helps to launch the South Manchester leg of the "ifs Young Business Writer of the Year 2007".

The Liberal Democrat MP for Manchester Withington is encouraging local youngsters, aged between 14 and 19, with a keen interest in business to enter the competition by writing an essay of no more than 1,500 words on "Who is responsible for the UK consumer debt mountain?"

Mr Leech said:

"This competition is not only great for young people with an interest in business, it's appropriate for any young person to enter.

"It's a thought provoking question that will doubtless prompt many different responses. It not only helps to improve writing standards in general, it also encourages students to think about what is a very important issue."

The competition, which will award marks for reporting style, demonstration of research, evaluation, analysis and written argument is set to be judged by Deputy Business Editor for the Times, Robert Cole.

Not only will the winner receive the esteemed title of "Young Business Writer of the Year 2007", but there is also a cash prize of £250.

Anyone aged between 14 and 19 who wishes to enter the competition simply has to e-mail their article (which must not exceed 1,500 words) to ybwy@ifslearning.com between now and February 28 2007.
