An overwhelming number of dentists said that the new contract had failed to improve access to NHS dental treatment
John Leech MP is alarmed at the recent reports in the news that many NHS dental patients in England and Wales are being forced to pay for private dental treatment - or, even worse, are resorting to pulling out their own teeth.
'I am actually not surprised that people are finding access to NHS dental treatment difficult,' John Leech MP stated, 'Nearly half of all respondents to my health survey felt that it was impossible or difficult to register with an NHS dentist.'
It is not just patients who are frustrated - the dentists are themselves.
Of 750 dentists polled in a recent NHS feedback study, 84% said their new contract had failed to improve access to NHS services for patients.
'The current contract has actually made the relationship between the patient and the dentist far worse.'
