Winter has arrived and many South Manchester workers have reason to fear that they'll find themselves left out in the cold this Christmas season. This is because hundreds of workers from Tiscali Pipex's Christie Fields call centre in Chorlton recently learned that their jobs could be lost to corporate outsourcing before the end of the year.
In response to these possible job cuts, John Leech MP has taken quick action. Soon after the story broke, the South Manchester MP sponsored a parliamentary motion condemning the broadband service provider's likely layoffs. The motion notes that outsourcing often results in a drop in customer service quality and urges Tiscali Pipex to reconsider its plans and enter into meaningful discussions with staff to minimise job losses and to retain its workforce in Manchester.
John Leech MP made the following comment:
"It's disappointing that this company has chosen to axe local jobs, especially during the run-up to Christmas. I fully sympathize with the workers who will have to suffer the consequences of Tiscali playing Scrooge this holiday season."
