MP for Manchester Withington, John Leech, took advantage of this week's Prime Minister's Questions to ask Gordon Brown to intervene in a constituent's case in south Manchester.
John Leech's constituent, Adela Mahoro Mugabo, a Rwandan national, is threatened with deportation. However, in her native Rwanda, her husband was murdered and she was tortured and raped, leaving her HIV+. She is now dependent on a specialist mix of the antiviral drugs available in the UK for quality of life.
John Leech MP said:
"Deportation of Adela would be a human rights atrocity. It simply cannot be allowed. But despite a petition of over a thousand signatures, the immigration authorities have not listened. I have had no choice but go to the Prime Minister.
"I hope that raising the issue so publicly will allow Adela to stay."
