Lib Dem MP, John Leech, is backing parliamentary moves to call on the Church of England in order to allow there to be female bishops.
Clergy members have written to the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to say they will leave the Church of England if women bishops are ordained.
"This is an unacceptable form of discrimination against women clergy," John Leech said.
"We must remove anything that is coming in the way of preventing women from becoming bishops."
