Local Lib Dem MP John Leech is pleased to announce the winner of his annual schools' Christmas card competition.
Shahreen Ahmed's colourful South Manchester scene won despite stiff competition
Shahreen Ahmed, aged 8, of Broad Oak Primary School in Didsbury beat off stiff competition to win a mountain bike, paid for by Mr Leech, and will now have her design (right) printed on the card to be sent out across the Manchester Withington constituency this Christmas.
The runners-up are Ruby Berisford, Cavendish Road Primary School; Arjan Singh, Oswald Road Primary School; Imaan Khan, Didsbury CofE Primary School; Mehvish Yasin, Broad Oak Primary School; Erfan Mirzaei, Old Moat Primay School; Finn Murphy-Hewison, Chorlton CofE Primary School and Hannah Warburton, St Ambrose Primary School. They will all receive House of Commons stationery and all entrants will receive a certificate for their efforts.
Mr Leech says 'The standard of entries this year was extremely high, and choosing a winner was very difficult. However, Shahreen's design really stood out with its vibrant portrayal of a South Manchester Christmas.
'I'd like to thank Lawrence Matheson, the editor of the South Manchester Reporter, for his help in judging the competition. I'm glad that so many schools entered, and I want to personally congratulate all the pupils who put so much effort into their designs.'
