MP welcomes scaling back of tennis club's expansion plans

March 24, 2009 10:23 AM

Withington MP, John Leech, has welcomed the news that a West Didsbury tennis club has decided to think again over plans for an extension to build 3 indoor courts.

The initial plans announced by the Northern Lawn Tennis Club were met with criticism by local residents, with Town Hall planning bosses receiving 98 letters of objection to the proposals. The club's representatives have now agreed to go back to the drawing board and scale back their plans.

John Leech, who attended the planning meeting about the proposals and spoke out in support of local residents opposed to the plans, said, "I am very pleased that Northern Lawn have decided to reconsider their plans to take into account local opposition to their proposals. No-one is arguing against an improvement in the facilities, but the original plans were far from appropriate for the local area and would have been quite imposing for local residents."

"I am hopeful that an arrangement will be reached that is acceptable to all concerned parties."
