John Leech MP will hand over the M.E.N.'s Cash Back for Christie petition to Gordon Brown next week, calling for the £6.5 million lost in the Icelandic bank crisis to be refunded.

The MP for Manchester Withington will join hospital campaigners at Downing Street on Thursday with a petition with currently over 90,000 signatures.

The Financial Services Compensation Scheme has so far refused to refund the money lost when the Icelandic banking crisis started. The FSCS has stuck by its claim that FSA rules only make is possible to refund individual investors and small businesses.

John Leech MP said, "The House of Commons Treasury Select Committee has argued that charities should be fully compensated and I will be pressing the government to enact this recommendation."

Campaigners are hoping that more people will sign the petition, which can be found using this external link: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/TheChristie/

John Leech MP added "The M.E.N. has done a fantastic job in collecting all these petitions in such a short time. Hopefully it will have an impact in persuading the powers-that-be that The Christie must get its money."
