Another blow to South Manchester postal services2.00.00pm GMT Thu 31st Jan 2008 John Leech MP has slammed the decision to reduce the working hours of a prolific sorting office in south Manchester without a public consultation. The Liberal Democrat MP said: 'The Fallowfield sorting office will now close at 2pm on week days, meaning it is more difficult for local people to use the facility. 'It is a well used office, serving right across Fallowfield, Withington and Didsbury, and the reduction of opening hours is against the wishes of local people and staff. It is yet another blow to the area, which has seen the closure of many post offices in recent times and is set to see more later this year.' John Leech MP has tabled a Parliamentary Motion against the decision. <Ends> The Early Day Motion which John has tabled is set out below: EDM 776 REDUCED HOURS AT SOUTH MANCHESTER ROYAL MAIL DELIVERY OFFICE 24.01.2008 Leech, John That this House notes with concern the decision by Royal Mail to reduce the opening hours of the South Manchester Delivery Office in Fallowfield which will result in the office closing at 2 p.m.; recognises that this is yet another reduction in postal services in Manchester and is against the wishes of both staff and local residents; and is dismayed that this decision has been made without consultation.
