'The Hallé is a world class institution and firmly puts Manchester on the map for classical music. It is the longest running professional symphony orchestra in Britain and has attracted some of the very best musicians to our city to perform with them, including the late great Luciano Pavarotti.
'The orchestra also does much outreach work in the community, for example, running music and drama workshops for children whose education in the arts is only just beginning.'
