MP for Manchester Withington, John Leech, has been named 'Parliamentary Champion' by Cancer Research UK in their latest campaign, Screening Matters, which endeavours to actively promote the issue of cancer screening and cancer care.

As Parliamentary Champion for the charity, John Leech MP will continue to raise the profile and emphasise the importance of cancer screening in the battle to save lives.

John recently met with Cancer Research UK to discuss bowel cancer screening in south Manchester, and in particular where the local screening centre features in the Midlands and North West Programme Hub which has been rolling out since 2006.

The Screening Matters campaign is particularly poignant as 2008 marks the twentieth anniversary of the introduction of NHS breast and cervical screening programmes.
