Liberal Democrat MP for Withington, John Leech, has called for more action on providing sustainable sources of energy on a local level.

John said that, "We need to ensure that we give citizens and councils a role in implementing sustainable and efficient energy plans in order to combat climate change and make sure Britain is doing all it can to secure our planet's future."

"Our changing climate is a global problem, but it is on a local level that people can really make a difference."

Mr. Leech has lent his support to a parliamentary bill which will aim to involve, rather than simply instruct, local communities in efforts to combat this issue.

"Improving energy efficiency in housing is one of the Liberal Democrats' key environmental concerns, along with local targets for carbon dioxide reductions and higher targets for renewable sources of energy." He stated, "and only by involving local communities can we do something about this."
