Labour's Ewing Closure Shame: Leech2.23.52pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 13th Oct 2009
The Closure of Ewing school came one stage closer today when Labour members of the Children and Young Persons Scrutiny Committee voted through closure plans. Lib Dem members of the Committee voted against the plans. Withington Lib Dem MP John Leech said today, "Labour Councillors have towed the party line and should be ashamed of themselves. Local parents, pupils and the 11,000 local people who signed the petition opposing closure will never forget how they have been ignored and betrayed by Labour." Manchester Lib Dem Group Leader Simon Ashley added, "The Liberal Democrats on the Council will continue to argue at every opportunity for Ewing to stay open. The Council should be giving more choice to parents and pupils, not reducing it as the closure of Ewing does." Ends....... For more contact 07879 891150
